Memorial Story Share:
Charles Cowan was born on January 28, 1919 in Westville, OK
to parents Henry and Lillie Cowan. He was one of seven siblings; three brothers and three sisters.

During the era of the "Great Depression" and "Dust Bowl" days, their "Proud Oakie Spirit" urged the Cowan family to come west to California in search of a better way of life.

First, setting in Corcoran, CA the family later moved to Westwood, CA where there was a greater opportunity for schooling and work with the Red River Lumber Co. for Henry, Charles and his brothers.

As time passed, Charles married and after the birth of a son, he and his wife Lona moved to Susanville, CA where he worked for Fruit Growers Supply Co. for more than a decade. During this time they had three more children. In 1952, Charles and his family moved to Shasta County, residing in Cottonwood and later Anderson where he worked as a sawyer for Ralph L. Smith Lumber Co., which later became known as Kimberly Clark Corp. until his retirement.

Charles was a member of the Lion s Club, Kiwanas Club and Oddfellow Lodge and an active participant in "Trail Days" in Anderson s early development stages.
Our hearts are heavy with sorrow, but gladdened and lifted that your "Proud Oakie Spirit" will live on in your remaining loving family. We will always love you "Grandpa" "Our Hero".
